greytHR’s ‘Hiring Horizons’ Report Highlights Emerging Trends in Youth Employment in India

greytHR, a full-suite HRMS platform provider, today released its latest “Hiring Horizons: Opportunities in Youth Hiring” report, shedding light on the dynamic youth hiring trends across multiple industries in India. Based on comprehensive hiring data from 10,000 companies and covering over 2 million employees, the report provides key insights into age-based hiring patterns from 2022 to 2024, with a focus on the IT/ITES, Business Services, Financial Services, and Retail sectors.

The report reveals that mid-career professionals (25–34 years) dominate hiring, representing 44% of all new hires. However, youth (18–24 years) continue to make a significant impact, accounting for 41% of new hires across sectors like IT/ITES, Financial Services, and Retail.

Retail Leads Youth Hiring: Retail stands out with 65.6% of its workforce comprising young professionals, making it a key employer of the 18–24 age group. Similarly, Financial Services and IT/ITES sectors also attract a high percentage of young talent.

Decline in Youth Hiring in IT: The report highlights a decline in fresher hiring within the IT/ITES sector since 2022, driven by the rise of AI and automation technologies. However, opportunities remain robust across other service sectors.

Commenting on the report, Sayeed Anjum, Co-founder and CTO of greytHR, said, “The youth of India represent a critical force in shaping the country’s future workforce. Our latest report sheds light on the evolving hiring landscape, especially for young professionals who are entering an increasingly tech-driven job market. These insights will help companies adapt their strategies to attract and retain the right talent while balancing the need for upskilling and automation.”

Strategic Recommendations for HR Professionals: The report emphasizes the importance of building a balanced workforce by attracting young professionals and upskilling existing employees to keep pace with technological advancements like AI.

For young professionals, the service sector continues to offer strong entry-level opportunities. Staying competitive in this evolving landscape will require embracing new technologies and developing adaptable skills. Continuous learning will be crucial to career advancement and long-term success, particularly in tech-driven fields.
