IESA to host 4th International Conference on Stationary Energy Storage India (SESI) 2024 in New Delhi to drive energy storage for Renewable, electricity grid, rooftop solar and decarbonise the C&I sector

  • IESA will host the 4th Edition of the International Conference on Stationary Energy Storage India (SESI) 2024 on Tuesday, March 19, in New Delhi.

  • SESI 2024 will present valuable perspectives on energy storage-related government policies in India, past and upcoming tenders, and the latest project updates driving the advancement of energy storage in India.

India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) will host the 4th Edition of the International Conference on Stationary Energy Storage India (SESI) 2024 on Tuesday, March 19, in New Delhi with 200+ industry leaders, 10+ government officials, and 10+ partners from the USA, Norway, Germany, Scotland, Australia, Singapore and other countries.

Integrating renewable energy in the power system is crucial for India to meet its climate goals. However, the rising penetration of renewables in the energy mix also necessitates increasing energy storage capacity to address system integration challenges arising from the variable nature of renewable energy and supply-demand mismatch. Further, the past few years have seen phenomenal developments in the energy storage sector in India such as the approval of Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for the development of 4,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) by 2030-31, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) announcing plans to invite bids for 50 GW of renewable energy capacity per year for the next five years, from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28, and SECI, NTPC, SJVN, and states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and others have announced various tenders like standalone ESS, firm & dispatchable RE, RE + storage, and peak power.

Organized under the esteemed Stationary Energy Storage India Council (SESI Council), the day-long conference will bring together key stakeholders from the stationary energy sector from regulators and policymakers to industry leaders and experts to discuss and collaborate on advancements in stationary energy storage. Key participants for the conference include MNRE, MoP, MEITY, DST, CEA,  SECI, NTPC, GEAPP, World Economic Forum, Department of science & Technology, World Bank, Good Enough Energy, SMA, Envision Energy, Ampyr Energy, DCM Container, Maestrotech System, GIZ, Government of Australia and others.

“India is poised for rapid deployment of BESS and pumped hydro to complement the renewable energy deployments as part of the ambitious targets set by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji,” said Dr. Rahul Walawalkar, President, IESA.

“SESI 2024 will bring together policymakers and practitioners, who will provide insights on the road ahead as well as share best practices from global experience. It is the perfect platform for all stakeholders who are interested in RE+storage, behind-the-meter deployment of stand-alone energy storage in India,” he added.

“Our vision is set to create a global impact by supporting India’s ambitious goal of achieving 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030,” said Akash Kaushik, Founder of GoodEnough Energy P. Ltd., a partner [organization] for SESI 2024. “With our world-class research & development facility, GoodEnough proudly hosts India’s most advanced and compact BESS technology. Together, let’s make our country shine brighter and cleaner.”

The inaugural session at the SESI 2024 will open with a dialogue on the Policy Roadmap to Drive Stationary Energy Storage in India with followed by 20+ global expert-led talks, presentations, and panel discussions on the stationary energy storage sector in India. Delegates attending SESI 2024 will gain valuable perspectives on energy storage-related government policies, past and upcoming tenders, and the latest project updates driving the advancement of energy storage in India.

For close to a decade, IESA has been working with central and state governments agencies like CEA, CERC, Grid-India, SECI and others to accelerate the growth of the energy storage sector in India and to address potential system integration challenges that may arise from the rising penetration of renewables in the energy mix through its Stationary Energy Storage India Council (SESI) CouncilIESA is closely working with its 180+ member companies, energy storage technology providers, battery manufacturers, key renewable players, state nodal agencies and utilities, and tender authorities to develop an energy storage market.
