Unicommerce, one of India’s leading e-commerce enablement SaaS platforms, has launched “Unified Returns,” an advanced capability for efficient handling and processing of order returns. This capability enables brands to optimise their warehouse operations and save logistics costs.

Unified returns resolves three major pain points in managing order returns. Quick receipt, automated segregation of returns and handling unidentified packages.

Order returns are an inevitable part of e-commerce business and can significantly increase logistics costs. Returns also result in delayed deliveries as packages have to be manually sorted and reshipped. This impacts the end-consumer’s shopping experience. Unicommerce’s unified returns can automate the receiving and sorting process of orders returned at a warehouse and enable brands to identify returns as returns initiated by customersundeliverable orders and unidentified packages using a single window.

Quick receipt and error-free sorting of returned packages can enable the warehouse staff to instantly inspect customer complaints and grade the inventory as good or bad. This can lead to faster restocking of good inventory, and the bad inventory can be marked to the seller or manufacturer immediately. With a reduced turnaround time for recording returned orders, the warehouse can utilise the courier partner’s trip by handing over additional consignments. This can save additional logistics costs for brands and expedite the delivery of the stock waiting to be shipped to end consumers.

During scenarios when an unidentified package arrives at a warehouse for which the warehouse staff has no record, Unicommerce’s unified returns can provide the capability of updating details like channel of order, sale order, shipment details and any other relevant information in the system. Such packages are prone to pilferage or theft, leading to financial loss and damaged customer relations. Unified returns can ensure that these packages are accounted for, and action can be taken before storing them in the warehouse or raising a reverse pick-up.

Brands can also monitor the granular movements of inventories within each warehouse, gaining a detailed view of its operational performance and performing a day-end analysis.

Unicommerce’s recent acquisition of Shipway adds to the comprehensiveness of its returns management system, enabling end customers with features like one-click exchange, processing instant and automated refunds, reverse-pickup automation, and failed pickup reports while keeping the customers notified at every step.

“Tackling returns is one of the biggest challenges for brands. With this sophisticated enhancement, our advanced returns management system covers all aspects of a return cycle, from accepting returns on brand websites to quickly restocking returned inventory across warehouses and closing the loop with returns reconciliation”, said Bhupinder GargChief Technology Officer at Unicommerce.
