Walmart explores retail’s AI-powered future

The fourth edition of AI @ Walmart brought together experts from the industry and academia to explore AI’s rapidly evolving landscape


Walmart concluded the fourth edition of its flagship Artificial Intelligence (AI) conference—AI @ Walmart—that delved into the future of AI and its role in leading people-led, tech-powered customer experiences. Tech enthusiasts and data scientists joined the event to hear insights from industry leaders and academicians on the latest AI trends transforming retail and beyond.

Customers’ needs today have evolved significantly; they are savvy about adopting technologies that provide more value and convenience, in any channel or space. Participants and attendees at the one-day, hybrid event discussed various facets and abilities of AI to power innovative customer experiences—from leveraging AI responsibly, exploring its research landscape to enabling adoption at scale.

AI and GenAI are integral to this journey—powering more interconnected and frictionless customer experiences,” said Balu Chaturvedula, SVP & Country Head, Walmart Global Tech during the event. “While we’re excited about the possibilities of AI, we’re also clear about our path. During the event, Walmart data scientists showcased research presentations on areas such as machine learning, deep learning, computer vision and more. Some of Walmart’s recent AI use cases include: GenAI-powered Search, Shop with Friends, Sam’s Club Exit Tech and InHome Replenishment.

In an exclusive conversation, former Indian tennis champion, Mahesh Bhupathi inspired the audience with anecdotes from his sporting career and his views on the power of technology. The conference concluded with a special session on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), led by Pratyush Kumar, Co-founder, Sarvam AI.
