The Impact of Data Localization Regulations on Data Center Strategies

With the digital economy of the country burgeoning at a rapid rate, it is giving the desired impetus to data localization. Stemming from the need to improve data security and privacy while ensuring compliance and performance, it is also being sought to minimize latency. Here, improving the speed of data transfer plays a significant role in enhancing the user experience while driving the efficacy of the overall operations.

As the implementation of data localization has been gaining mileage in recent years, it is contributing to a surge in demand for efficient data centers across the country. Considering that India is expected to reach $ 1trillion digital economy by 2030, as per the Nasscom-Arthur D Little report, there is a need to ramp up the data center capacity to efficiently store and manage the huge data deluge generated by the country.

But while focusing on expanding the data centers, it is imperative to drive optimal performance of facilities to achieve the purpose of data localization. In the pursuit, it is essential to lay a strong foundation for resilient infrastructure, for which it is recommended that industry players be vigilant of the threats plaguing the industry. Here, it is important to recognize the impending perils of Airborne Molecular Contamination (AMC) that is present in the air in the form of smoke or dust. It comes with the ability to contaminate the environment inside the data centers, ultimately resulting in the corrosion of the systems. The corrosion is further magnified in miniaturized electronics that run the risk of micro-corrosion or e-corrosion.

Giving rise to a wide spectrum of issues, corrosion can account for the breakdown of machines, necessitating additional maintenance and costly repair of the systems. It can severely impact the longevity of sensitive processes and give rise to faulty operations coupled with reliability issues. Even a minor glitch due to the factors stated above can lead to the downtime of the data centers and disrupt the entire experience for consumers. Therefore, in order to address the menace of air contaminants, the industry should focus on employing quality air solutions aimed at driving the performance of the data centers while boosting the uptime of the facility.

As part of the endeavour, deploying advanced Gas Phase Filtration systems (GPF) in the data centers can go a long way in maintaining the highest quality of air across the facility.
