Interviews

AI is not meant to compete with humans but to complement them in enhancing experiences.

CXOToday has engaged in an exclusive interview with Atalanta Kar, Vice President and Global Head (Sales and Client Relations) at Nihilent

  1. How will a Human-centered approach help organisations solve problems and help in change management?

We prioritize a human-centric approach as the foundation of our work. Our client discussions begin with design thinking sessions where our practitioners deeply engage with and understand the people who will use the systems. This understanding is crucial, as it helps bridge the gap between consumer needs and offerings. Failing to bridge this gap can lead to significant change management issues later on. Digital technologies continuously shape new ways of working and living, and enterprises must involve their consumers and user communities to seamlessly transition. By humanizing technology, we enable its true value as a differentiating factor.

At Nihilent, our purpose is to place the human experience at the core of technological transformations. Whether it’s our interactions with the physical world or our digital relationships, we ensure technology enhances the human experience. After all, technology is truly valuable when it elevates human experiences.

  1. With the US and European economies going through a slowdown, is there any effect on the new projects?

Our industry has experienced various global economic downturns, which have often presented new opportunities for companies like ours. Such events prompt our clients to seek alternative solutions and engagement models, leading them to rethink every aspect of their business. Rather than solely focusing on cost optimization, we prioritize recalibrating revenue channels, driving growth and expansion, and expanding customer bases in this evolving market. Our design thinking approach proves highly effective in this context. During economic slowdowns, budget cuts are common, and technology and automation often enable cost optimization through improved operational efficiency. Priorities typically include predictability in business processes, operational efficiency, waste reduction, and expanding service channels for clients. In previous waves, we have observed that clients are increasingly open to remote work from global digital hubs like India.

3. Why businesses should implement responsible AI strategies.

The rollout of AI technology requires thoughtful consideration of elements such as safety, trustworthiness, ethics, and governance. Governance, in particular, still has gaps that need attention. AI deployment should not be limited to compliance alone but should also align with societal norms, privacy rights, and human values. Regulations surrounding AI are rapidly evolving, and noncompliance can result in costly audits, penalties, and reputational damage.

Developing a responsible AI strategy involves considering multiple factors, including governance, regulations, brand commitment, client expectations, operational changes, technology limitations, and organizational structure. AI is not meant to compete with humans but to complement them in enhancing experiences.

Nihilent understands the importance of comprehensive AI deployment. We collaborate with clients to develop responsible strategies and conduct technology pilots in controlled environments. Our approach extends beyond technology to include organizational change involving people and processes. Neglecting to consider all scenarios can lead to significant material and reputational damage. Careful planning is crucial to ensure AI benefits are maximized while minimizing potential negative impacts.

  1. How Technology audit can help in identifying the gaps in business processes, and how can consulting fix this?

Traditional audits face a significant challenge as they rely on predefined parameters and templates, often missing out on potential opportunities that arise from thinking differently. The advent of digital technologies has led to the need for redefining business processes, creating new models, and revolutionizing work practices. Failure to understand and adapt to these disruptions within a specific timeframe can have serious consequences for businesses.

A technology audit alone cannot effectively enhance business processes; it requires a comprehensive consulting exercise that identifies opportunities for leveraging digital technologies and addresses existing gaps in a holistic manner. While technology audits are valuable in assessing technical maturity or digital readiness in specific areas, they may limit possibilities and hinder innovative thinking. Instead, a design thinking-based consulting approach enables organizations to embrace innovation, think creatively, and explore new horizons.

By adopting this approach, businesses can unlock untapped potential, align digital technologies with their objectives, and navigate the transformative digital landscape successfully, ensuring maximum value from their investments.

  1. What support are the organisations seeking in the world of Metaverse and Chat-GPT?

Technologies like Metaverse and ChatGPT are driving new digital inflection points, ushering in waves of innovation and transformation. Organizations worldwide are reassessing their business models and processes to leverage these technologies based on their strategic goals.

At Nihilent, we’re actively exploring industry-specific use cases and benefits, engaging in technology pilot projects to showcase the potential of Metaverse and ChatGPT in real-world scenarios. Our approach goes beyond technology, focusing on the business lens to envision how these technologies can drive value for our clients. We’re reimagining platforms such as commerce and sports through Metaverse, witnessing positive initial responses. ChatGPT, on the other hand, is a disruptive force with the power to redefine how businesses operate, revolutionize human-machine collaboration, and unleash creativity. We’re researching its long-term potential in the enterprise space and assisting clients in integrating their platforms with ChatGPT.

Our human-centered approach considers the nature of work and user training requirements. We believe that leading enterprises should invest time and effort in understanding the potential of these technologies, as there’s still an early mover advantage for those who embrace them effectively.
