Can you please provide an overview of Delta Electronics India’s EV charger manufacturing capabilities?

Delta’s manufacturing capabilities enable us to produce a substantial volume of chargers to meet the growing demand for electric mobility solutions in India. Kindly share the current scale of Delta charger installations in India and your outlook for the current FY. It will be good to get a break up of the type of chargers as well.

Delta Electronics has installed more than 8,000 EV chargers in India to date, reflecting our commitment to developing the country’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The distribution of these chargers comprises 55% DC chargers and 45% AC chargers. As for the outlook for the current fiscal year, we remain dedicated to expanding our charger network and supporting the growing demand for electric vehicles in India. Our focus is on delivering reliable and innovative charging solutions to meet the diverse needs of the EV ecosystem, ensuring a seamless and convenient charging experience for EV users throughout the country.

 

Delta has been manufacturing EV chargers in India for the past 7 years. What kind of changes in charger demand and product mix have you noticed during this time?

Overall, the past 7 years have been transformative for Delta’s EV charger business in India, witnessing a remarkable surge in demand, a shift in product mix, and the evolution of customer preferences. Delta’s adaptability and commitment to innovation have enabled the company to meet the dynamic demands of the growing electric mobility landscape in India. Initially, the demand for EV chargers was relatively modest as the electric vehicle market was in its early stages. However, with the increasing adoption of electric vehicles and the government’s push for sustainable transportation solutions, the demand for chargers has experienced exponential growth.

Delta has witnessed a notable shift in the product mix of EV chargers during this period. In the early years, home and workplace charging, dominated the product mix. However, as the need for fast charging infrastructure grew, there has been a surge in the demand for our fast chargers, catering to public locations and highways. Additionally, as the EV market matured, customers’ preferences and requirements evolved. Delta responded to these changing needs by diversifying its charger offerings, providing a comprehensive range of chargers suitable for different applications and charging scenarios.

 

How does Delta ensure the quality and reliability of the EV chargers it manufactures?

At Delta Electronics, we prioritize the quality and reliability of our EV chargers with a rigorous and comprehensive approach. While we do have standard off-the-shelf products readily available for deployment, we recognize that each customer may have unique requirements based on their infrastructure, usage patterns, and specific applications. Consequently, we provide a wide range of EV charger design options to meet their specific preferences and operational demands.

Delta offers a degree of customization for EV charger design to its customers, primarily pertaining to optional items. However, it’s important to note that for the core components and functionalities of the charger, they are standard off-the-shelf products. Customers have the flexibility to choose optional features or accessories to tailor the charger to their specific needs or preferences. This approach ensures a balance between standardization for efficiency and customization for meeting individual requirements, providing a versatile and practical solution for various EV charging scenarios.

Recently in Elecrama 2023, Delta Electronics launched India’s first Green EV charging solution. Kindly explain what does a Green solution comprise of and how does it differ in terms of cost dynamics (one-time and operational costs) from regular chargers?

Delta Electronics’ launch of a Green EV charging station at Elecrama 2023 marked a significant milestone in sustainable transportation. A Green EV charging solution comprises several key elements that distinguish it from regular chargers. Firstly, these solutions involve higher initial investment costs due to the inclusion of additional components like solar panels, energy storage systems, and microgrid control infrastructure. However, the benefits start to shine over time. Solar panels and energy storage systems, though substantial in cost, reduce grid electricity consumption, lowering operational expenses in the long run. Operational costs decrease as Green EV charging stations generate some electricity from renewable sources, reducing reliance on the grid and potentially resulting in significant savings on electricity bills, especially in areas with high electricity prices. Maintenance costs for components like solar panels and batteries must be considered, but regular chargers also have maintenance needs, making the comparison equipment-specific. Green EV charging stations can mitigate grid connection fees by using their microgrid-generated power. Additionally, their positive environmental impact aligns with sustainability goals and may lead to regulatory incentives or public support. Lastly, scalability can impact cost dynamics; larger installations may have higher initial costs but can achieve economies of scale and more significant operational savings over time. In summary, while Green EV charging solutions involve higher upfront costs, they offer long-term benefits in reduced operational expenses, lower environmental impact, and potential scalability advantages, making them a compelling choice for sustainable transportation infrastructure.

 

Has Delta done any EV charging projects with integrated energy storage systems? Please share your experience and the unique dynamics associated with such installations.
