Women have the power to shape the future —so step forward boldly, take risks and make your mark: Rohini Ahluwalia, COO, Blaupunkt Audio India
- In your opinion, what are the key factors contributing to the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields, and what steps can be taken to address this?
The underrepresentation of women in STEM fields can be attributed to various factors, including societal stereotypes, a lack of female role models, and implicit biases in educational and workplace environments. To address this, fostering early interest in STEM among girls through mentorship programs, promoting inclusive and supportive cultures in schools and workplaces, and implementing policies that ensure equal opportunities and recognition for women in STEM are crucial. Additionally, highlighting the achievements of female leaders in the field and providing resources for career advancement can help create a more diverse and inclusive STEM landscape, benefiting both individuals and society as a whole.
- As a female entrepreneur, what advice would you give to other women looking to break into the tech industry?
Education and awareness will always hold the top position, playing a crucial role in any journey we decide to put our hands into. Embrace every opportunity that comes your way and nurture it in a whole new way through defined perspective and strength. Don’t be deterred by any perceived barriers; instead, use them as fuel to drive your ambition. Seek out mentorship from other successful women in tech and build a supportive network, never shy away from learning from the best. Believe in yourself and your abilities, and remember that diversity in thought leads to innovation. Women have the power to shape the future, so step forward boldly, take risks, and make your mark.
- How do you balance your professional and personal life being a woman-prenuer in the industry?
As an entrepreneur in the tech industry, balancing my professional and personal lives is essential for holistic success. I indulge in lengthy yoga sessions, nurturing both body and mind, which helps maintain equilibrium amidst the demands of entrepreneurship. Alongside personal wellness, I’m an avid learner and voracious reader, immersing myself in newspapers and articles post-meditation. This blend of self-care and knowledge acquisition fuels my ability to navigate challenges with resilience and creativity. By prioritising both physical and mental well-being, while staying informed and curious, I find harmony between my entrepreneurial pursuits and personal fulfilment, fostering a sustainable and enriching lifestyle.
- What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an entrepreneur, and how did you overcome them?
In almost all of my 14 years in the industry, one of the biggest challenges I’ve encountered is navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and market trends. However, I’ve embraced this challenge as an opportunity for continuous learning and adaptation to take Blaupunkt to greater heights. By staying agile and proactive, I’ve cultivated a mindset of innovation, allowing me to anticipate shifts and pivot strategies accordingly. Furthermore, developing a strong support network of mentors, peers, and supporters has proven critical to overcoming challenges. Through determination, innovation, and firm confidence in my goal, I’ve turned challenges into opportunities for growth and achievement.
- Looking ahead, what changes or advancements would you like to see for women who like to pursue their dreams to become an entrepreneur in the coming years?
In the coming years, I envision a landscape where women pursuing entrepreneurship encounter even greater support and opportunities. I hope to see increased access to mentorship programs, funding initiatives specifically tailored for female entrepreneurs, and a shift in societal perceptions that fully embraces women as leaders and innovators. Also, advancements in technology could further democratise entrepreneurship, allowing women from all backgrounds to access resources and networks necessary for success. By fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment, we can create a future where every woman feels empowered to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams and thrive in the dynamic world of business.
