ZS becomes the first organization in India to achieve an ISO 45003 certification by BSI

The certification recognizes ZS’s role in promoting and protecting socio-psychological well-being in the workplace

ZS India has also achieved ISO 45001 compliance along with ISO 45003, thereby integrating both physical and psychological safety standards under a common system

ZS, a global management consulting and technology firm, has become the first organization to achieve ISO 45003 certification in India by the British Standards Institution (BSI), which recognizes the role of employers in protecting the physical and psychosocial health of their staff. With this certification, ZS becomes the first organization in India, the third organization in the Asia-Pacific region and the ninth organization globally certified by BSI for ISO 45003. Along with this certification, ZS India has also been certified compliant under ISO 45001 standards that cover physical risk mitigation at the workplace. Integrating both offers a working environment that is safe, healthy, and happy.

ISO 45003 is the first global standard providing practical guidance on managing psychological health in the workplace. The standard covers a range of critical aspects, including identifying the conditions, circumstances and workplace demands that may affect workers’ psychological well-being, such as ineffective communication, excessive pressure, poor leadership, and negative organizational culture. What sets this certification apart is its focus on promoting and protecting not just physical health, but also socio-psychological well-being, recognizing the vital role that mental health plays in overall workplace health.

The ISO 45003 certification has been achieved along with ISO 45001 compliances which cover physical occupational health and safety at the workplace. ZS India has been certified for both standards, which when integrated, helps to identify, and control both physical and psychological risks under a common managed system; thus, providing a stronger alignment with a holistic approach to a safer working environment for employees.

While confirming the certification, Theuns Kotze, Managing Director – Assurance, BSI IMETA said, “ZS has set a remarkable precedent for workplace health and safety in India. This achievement not only reflects its commitment to provide a safe and healthy work environment, but also to include psychological health, leading the way in responsible business practices. By prioritizing employee well-being and upholding the first global standard in psychological health in the workplace, ZS has set an example for organizations across the country.”

Mohit Sood, Regional Managing Principal, ZS, said, “As a proud member of the ZS team, attaining the ISO 45003 certification is a testament to our commitment to occupational health and safety, as well as our dedication to our employees’ socio-psychological well-being and professional development. The COVID-19 pandemic presented numerous challenges to organizations worldwide, and this certification reflects our unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment during difficult times. Our comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety Management System not only prioritizes the physical safety of our employees, but also their socio-psychological well-being, which is critical to maintaining a productive, innovative, and engaged workforce. We are proud to have achieved this certification and remain dedicated to our goal to create a work environment that empowers our employees and drives our collective success.”

Dan Holohan, Chief Information Officer, ZS said, “Psychosocial hazards are being widely acknowledged as significant challenges to workplace health, safety, and well-being. By obtaining the ISO 45003 certification, our company demonstrates its commitment to prioritizing the welfare of our workforce, while also striving for excellence across all facets of our business operations.”

ZS’s attainment of the ISO 45003 certification highlights the company’s effective use of risk management tools that have helped to create safer and healthier workplaces, as well as its commitment to ESG goals aimed at improving business and sustainability performance. The organization has consistently demonstrated its dedication to adhering to the requirements of both the Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and the Psychological Health and Safety at Work standards. ZS places a high value on fostering employee comfort, diversity, and skill development, recognizing that these factors contribute to a happy and productive workforce.
