Zydex Industries leads the way to weather-resistant roads with innovative technologies

Zydex’s sustainable technologies ensure long-lasting, weather-resistant roadways, facilitating better rural connectivity in India

Zydex Industries’ has pioneered ground-breaking technology which guarantees climate-and-water-resilient roadways. With “Innovation for Sustainability” as its motto, Zydex’s Terrasil technology reduces the impact of water on roads, thereby ensuring greater and more effective life cycle benefits. Furthermore, Zydex’s ‘Zycotherm technology’ prevents de-bonding and delamination by preventing water from infiltrating pavements, thereby preventing damage.

India’s extensive network of low-volume and farm-to-market roads has a dramatic effect on rural connectivity. Transportation of products, people, and fundamental movement relies heavily on secondary low-volume roads. Rural roadways are in dire need of significant improvement. This has been accomplished to a large extent by the PMGSY scheme and a great deal of time and resources have been devoted to constructing this secondary network.

Dr. Ajay Ranka, speaking about the need for sustainable solutions for improved roads, stated, “Due to a national upsurge in traffic volume, the load-bearing capacity of roads must increase. It is not sufficient to simply apply a layer of bitumen to the surface; the base must also be strengthened. Therefore, we must reconstruct the entire foundation for guaranteed long-term performance. From a sustainability perspective, reusing what is already available is beneficial, which is why technology such as ‘Full Depth Reclamation’ (FDR) is going to play a crucial part in helping India upgrade low-volume roads to medium-volume roads, where we have the opportunity to redo the entire country’s soil bases and then re-stabilize and strengthen them.”

Water has the largest detrimental effect on the soil’s endurance. Therefore, constructing water-resistant soil bases will have a tremendously positive effect. Ineffective water drainage is a significant area of vulnerability for soil layers in the pavement. According to Zydex, if water is prevented from penetrating the pavement, the pavement designed to last for five years will last for approximately nine to ten years.

Through perpetual pavements, Zydex is a proud supporter of sustainability. By means of its multiple technologies, Zydex Industries is constructing weather-resistant roads and pavements. The Terrasil technology diminishes the impact of water on roadways and is consistent with the government’s overall strategy to create climate-resilient, water-resistant roads. Zycotherm technology is able to prevent debonding and delamination by preventing obstructed water from infiltrating and deteriorating the pavement. The fundamental concept is to prevent water from entering the pavement from below, above, or both directions. Zydex is proud to be a vital player in the acceptance of FDR in several Indian states and abroad, particularly the United States and Canada.

“The combination and value proposition offered by Zydex for constructing moisture-resistant soil bases align very well with the national direction of constructing new roads or enhancing the load-bearing capacity of existing roadways. Zydex is uniquely positioned to develop pavements that are moisture-resistant, robust, durable, and flexible using FDR. Zydex roads have acquired subject-matter expertise and will continue to innovate. A modest rise in cost will result in enormous benefits due to the longer life span of the roads,” added Dr. Ranka.

In a broader sense, Zydex’s robust R&D personnel have created a variety of technologies by analyzing soil chemistry to yield desirable outcomes and will continue to work in the same direction to bring sustainable solutions to the roadways construction sector.
