Global Trailblazers: Celebrating the Spirit of World Entrepreneurs Day

World Entrepreneurs Day is a celebration of the visionary individuals who dare to dream, innovate, and create. This annual observance recognizes the pivotal role that entrepreneurs play in driving economic growth, fostering innovation, and shaping the world’s business landscape. Their unwavering determination, resilience, and ingenuity have not only transformed industries but also inspired countless others to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.

Dilip Modi, Founder, Spice Money

“Entrepreneurs play a vital role in driving industrial growth and expanding economies. India now stands as the third-largest global hub for startups, boasting 107 unicorns worth $340.79 billion collectively, projected to grow to 250 by 2025 according to The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2022. These innovative startups have successfully tackled challenges in IT, education, healthcare, and agriculture, garnering global recognition.

Entrepreneurs embody the essence of dreamers, risk-takers, and innovators who are reshaping the world. My entrepreneurial journey is a tapestry woven with innovation, determination, and an unyielding pursuit of impact. I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey early in life, envisioning technology as a force capable of reshaping landscapes, transcending boundaries, and serving as a key enabler for achieving inclusive growth. Through diverse endeavors, I’ve discovered that entrepreneurship’s true power lies in empowering and driving meaningful change, beyond mere profits. My journey emphasizes that an entrepreneur’s legacy isn’t measured solely in personal gains but in the positive impact on individuals, communities, and the larger society.

The successful journey of Spice Money taught me that even audacious ideas can flourish when driven by genuine service and empowerment and how collective wisdom can elevate communities. Through its innovative platform, it empowers youth, unlocking their inner entrepreneur, and creating a path for them to become “nanopreneurs.” Currently, Spice Money has a network of more than 12.7 lakh Adhikari/nanopreneurs, serving and positively impacting the lives of people in emerging India. This forward-looking initiative not only champions entrepreneurship but also envisions a future where the youth take center stage in shaping the business landscape. On this World Entrepreneurs Day, I would like to celebrate the indomitable spirit of entrepreneurship and extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the dedicated entrepreneurs who relentlessly endeavor to propel India’s trajectory to new heights.”

Rahul Pagidipati, CEO, ZebPay

“Entrepreneurs are the driving force behind progress, pushing boundaries and redefining possibilities. In my journey as an entrepreneur, I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of resilience and determination. It’s not just about the wins; it’s about the lessons learned from failures and the unwavering commitment to keep moving forward. The startup ecosystem, especially in India, is a testament to the incredible resourcefulness and creativity that entrepreneurs bring to the table.

In the ever-evolving landscape of technology startups, there’s a dynamic synergy between innovation and entrepreneurship. The world of crypto, in particular, exemplifies this convergence. According to a Gartner survey, the market value of blockchain technology is anticipated to surge to $3.1 trillion by the start of the next decade. Tech entrepreneurs have the opportunity to harness the potential of blockchain and crypto to enhance financial systems and foster financial inclusion on a global scale.

As we navigate a world of rapid technological advancements, entrepreneurs must stay adaptable and open to new ideas. Embracing the transformative potential of blockchain can lead to groundbreaking solutions in areas such as decentralized finance, supply chain management, and beyond. I strongly believe that these technologies offer not only financial empowerment but also a new paradigm for transparent and secure transactions. I will continue to work towards fostering an environment that nurtures and supports the goal of providing equitable access to financial independence for all.”

Avinash Shekhar, CEO & Founder, TaxNodes

“In the realm of entrepreneurship, India stands out as a beacon of transparency and credibility. Its tech startup arena ranks third globally, a testament to our unwavering innovation. The entrepreneurs here exhibit remarkable resilience, transforming visions into reality.

World Entrepreneurs’ Day shines a spotlight on the vibrant spirit of innovation in India. Here, more people are taking the exciting leap into entrepreneurship, crafting their own paths to success. It’s a reminder that starting something new isn’t limited by age or conventional expectations. My journey with TaxNodes, a platform designed to simplify crypto taxation, is a testament to the power of creativity, resilience, and the pursuit of impact. Just as every entrepreneur faces challenges, we’ve navigated the complexities of taxation to simplify and empower. This day applauds not only accomplishments but also the inspiring stories of entrepreneurs who choose a unique road. As we celebrate, let’s recognize how the entrepreneurial spirit, when embraced, can reshape lives and make a lasting impact.

In this dynamic scenario, TaxNodes emerges as a catalyst, empowering investors to seamlessly navigate regulations. Tezos India is committed to nurturing the next generation of “Block preneurs” who will use this technology to solve real-world problems and build a more equitable and sustainable world. We believe that India has the potential to be a global leader in blockchain innovation. We are excited to be a part of this journey and to help make India the center of block chain innovation.

Shivam Thakral, CEO of BuyUcoin, India’s second-longest running digital asset exchange

“An entrepreneur creates something valuable from nothing. It’s about the courage to take risks and the determination to achieve their business goals. I want to celebrate the entrepreneurs who are changing the world with their Blockchain and digital asset ventures. Even during the funding winter, Web3 entrepreneurs kept going by cutting operational costs some of them going to the extent of letting go their salaries just to keep their company alive. The Startup India program has been instrumental in creating a fertile startup ecosystem in India where great ideas are nurtured and turned into global businesses. The new breed of Web3 entrepreneurs is using cutting-edge technology to solve real-world problems and create new opportunities for young talents. I admire entrepreneurs who are deploying digital assets and blockchain tech to deliver financial services to the unbanked population around the world. Entrepreneurs need the support of regulatory authorities and the establishment to turn their ideas into reality and we are hopeful that the upcoming G20 meet will engage in a constructive dialogue around policy framework for digital assets.”

Umang Sangal, CEO and Founder of Uplifters

“On this Entrepreneur Day, I am feeling proud to be an innovator and founder of Uplifters, which provides students with a platform to advance their professional skills and job opportunities to start their careers. Vivek Juneja, Founder and Managing Director, Varuna Group

“On this World Entrepreneur Day, as I reflect upon the journey of founding an Indian logistics and supply chain management venture, a sense of gratitude and pride envelops me. Our entrepreneurial odyssey commenced modestly in 1996 with just two trucks. Today, the journey has led us to a fleet of over two thousand trucks, a testament to unwavering dedication and focused vision. In an Indian logistics industry marked by fragmentation, our mission has been to forge a cohesive experience for our customers, underpinned by integrated services and seamless operations. Our evolution encompassed the expansion into warehousing, all anchored by the foundational principle that our customers are paramount. Transparency, a quality sometimes amiss in our industry’s early days, is our hallmark. By holding steadfast to these core values, we’ve charted a course from modest beginnings to our present accomplishments.”

Yeshasvini Ramaswamy Serial Entrepreneur & CEO, Great Place to Work® India
“On this World Entrepreneurs Day, I acknowledge the incredible innovative minds in India. Having witnessed and nurtured the entrepreneurial spirit here, I’m amazed by the young talent and creativity booming in our country. India is now a budding hub of startups, where entrepreneurs craft solutions for various challenges. For sustained growth, substantial investments must pour into our entrepreneurial infrastructure, enhancing accessibility and collaboration while strengthening resilience against disruptions. As leaders, we must empower women entrepreneurs, breaking barriers and contributing significantly to the economy.
Women entrepreneurs are vital in transforming the business landscape, breaking glass ceilings and setting exemplary benchmarks. Equally, conscious leadership is pivotal for the Gen Z employees. Nurturing their talent and guiding them toward success is our duty. To all the budding entrepreneurs: Conscious leadership is your compass. Success is intertwined with ethics, social responsibility, and a deep understanding of the world.  You have the power to lead not just with authority but with empathy.
As we celebrate this day, let’s nurture the ecosystem by mentoring, investing, and guiding the startups of tomorrow. Each of us shapes the future; together, we can create an innovative, diverse, and consciously led tomorrow. Happy World Entrepreneurs Day!”

Nimish Trivedi, Co-Founder & CEO, Evera

“As we mark World Entrepreneurship Day, we embark on a transformative journey in the realm of sustainable mobility. Entrepreneurship is the call of our times, where imminent challenges shall outgrow conventional, energy-intensive solutions. The unrelenting demand for finite energy resources not only strains our ecosystems but also leaves us exposed to energy price volatility. Moreover, the widespread reliance on conventional technologies often locks us into complex supply chains, that make complicate accessibility across borders. These challenges will turn into possibilities when sustainability intertwines with innovation to reshape green technology. Industry leaders must follow to craft a legacy that resonates with conscientious consumers and forward-thinking stakeholders.

The very essence of our entrepreneurial endeavor lies in harnessing the potential of sustainable solutions, where sustainability is not just a moniker; it’s a strategic lever that propels businesses forward, aligning profitability with a cleaner planet. In this narrative, human capital emerges as our vital currency. Nurturing minds that fuel green ingenuity, we recognize the criticality of retaining, nurturing, and inspiring talents. As we navigate this exciting trajectory, we remain committed to driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and embracing the boundless possibilities that lie at the intersection of entrepreneurship and sustainable solutions.”

Amit Lakhotia, Founder & CEO, Park+

Entrepreneurship is the new flavor of the season within the Indian economic eco-system. It’s heartening to see young bright minds, unlocking their potential by undertaking the road less travelled – entrepreneurship. The Indian startup story is at its nascent stage and a lot of it yet to unfold over the next decade. For India to truly emerge as a “global entrepreneurial hotspot”, the government needs to encourage and support startups by creating a conducive business environment, backed by a positive peer 2 peer learning/support structure. Having said that, this world entrepreneurship day let’s celebrate our success and double down in building a vibrant entrepreneurial landscape here in India.

Sandeep Agrawal Director Teamlease Regtech, India’s leading regulatory solutions company

The 21st-century Indian entrepreneur does not wait for the right moment or opportunity. They shape their future with their own hands and perseverance. However, a business-conducive environment can be the difference between prolonged periods of struggle and plain sailing. The regulatory environment is fraught with microscopic prescriptions that do not allow much leeway to the employer and end up tying their hands down. With the ease of doing business becoming a central theme, there have been several positive developments, but this is a long road. From rationalising business laws to introducing digitisation and removing criminalisation, much needs to be done to empower entrepreneurs to engage in nation-building.

Prateek Maheshwari, Co-founder at Physics Wallah, India’s leading Edtech company

Being an entrepreneur in any country has its challenges, and India is no exception. According to me entrepreneurship is a tough yet exciting journey filled with uncertainties. As an entrepreneur, one is often unsure of how the product will be received, how to manage a team, and where to secure funds. However, despite these challenges, India is currently one of the best countries to embark on an entrepreneurial journey. India’s economy is highly supportive of entrepreneurship, with a domestic market that boasts a record-high consumption rate. Moreover, the government is actively taking steps to foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem, providing support and incentives for startups. This favorable environment makes India an ideal place to kickstart a new venture or startup. While the path of an entrepreneur is undoubtedly challenging, the opportunities in India are abundant. The support available, both from the economy and the government, can greatly enhance the chances of success. I would like to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to consider India as a favorable destination for their entrepreneurial aspirations.

Haresh Calcuttawala, CEO and Co-Founder at TreZix, India’s leading SaaS platform for Importers and Exporters.

Being a startup entrepreneur in India is quite challenging. While the country has seen a surge in startup activity in recent years and has a growing ecosystem to support entrepreneurs, there are still several obstacles that startup founders need to overcome. Here are some of the challenges faced by startup entrepreneurs in India:

– Regulatory and bureaucratic hurdles: India has complex regulations and bureaucratic processes that is time-consuming and challenging for startups to navigate. Incorporating a company, obtaining licenses, complying with tax regulations, and dealing with various government departments is a daunting tasks.

– Access to capital is crucial for startups, but in India, it can be difficult to secure funding, especially in the early stages. There is limited availability of venture capital and angel investors, particularly outside major cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, NCR etc.

– Finding skilled employees is a big challenge in tier II cities, especially in niche sectors.

– While India has a large population, the purchasing power of the average consumer is relatively low. Startups often face the challenge of creating products or services that cater to this price-sensitive market.

– India’s diverse cultural landscape brings its own set of challenges. Startups need to understand and adapt to the cultural nuances of different regions or states to effectively market and sell their offerings.

India also offers several advantages for startups, including a growing middle class, increasing digital penetration, and a large consumer base. The government has also launched various initiatives to support startups, such as tax incentives, funding programs, and simplified regulations. With perseverance, innovative ideas, and a strategic approach, startup entrepreneurs can find success in India’s dynamic business landscape.

Dr. Somdutta Singh, Founder & CEO, Assiduus Global Inc

This simply means that just like a chariot cannot move on one wheel, we cannot change or attain our destiny without hard work and effort.

Through my years as an entrepreneur, I’ve acquired invaluable insights. Every person who crosses my path teaches me a different lesson. I have learned to understand that leaders wear multifaceted hats, self-awareness encompassing mental and physical well-being is of paramount importance, effective communication serves as a linchpin, and always being present is a necessity. I have also learned that adversities come hand-in-hand with opportunities. In the tumultuous landscape surpassing 2020 and beyond, when a global pandemic presented an escalating array of challenges, not just for me but for every person, every entrepreneur, and every founder, I knew, I had to propel forward with my team and my organization and keep driving through, not back down.

When I embarked on the journey I am on, I had no compass to guide my path. I have shaped and carved my own path, and in my reckoning, the cornerstone of venturing into new horizons has been my self-assurance, my confidence, and conviction in my thoughts, my aspirations, my destination, and my direction.  See, external influences will also kindle inspiration and challenges, but your inner voice has to propel you with unrivalled momentum. If you have to forge innovation, your foundation of vision has to be the strongest.

I believe that profound capability resides within all of us. It is just the confidence that forges our path ahead.”

Amarpreet Singh Anand, Designation- Co-Founder & CEO, Superfoods Valley

“After having spent more than 2 decades in the corporate world, I felt a strong sense of purpose and excitement when I decided to start Superfoods Valley. Even though entrepreneurship might seem glamorous and promising from the outside, I believe that being genuinely passionate about solving a specific problem and having a personal interest in finding a solution gives your brand or company a stronger reason to exist. Entrepreneurship has its tough moments and can be lonely, but what keeps you going is “GRIT,” which comes from having a clear purpose for why you’re determined to provide this solution to the world.

When we began developing Good Monk , our flagship Nutrition Mix product, many experts didn’t think it was possible and laughed at us. Despite facing thousands of failed attempts, we were eventually able to create India’s first nutrition mix without any taste, color, or smell when added to your cooked food. Many more innovations in the pipeline to support our mission of Making Nutrition Easy.”
