HealthPlix harnessing technology to drive digital healthcare revolution in India

CXOToday has engaged in an exclusive interview with Tejasvi Singh Kushwah, Head – Doctor Growth & Retention at HealthPlix Technologies

  1. Why are Electronic Medical Records (EMR) important in the current healthcare landscape of India?

The nation is experiencing a significant rise in chronic diseases, driving a heightened demand for efficient and cost-effective healthcare services. EMRs are instrumental in this context as they streamline healthcare workflows, improve productivity, and ensure the accuracy of medical records. This streamlined approach not only enhances efficiency but also contributes to the quality of healthcare delivery. The impact of this streamlined approach goes beyond just efficiency. Healthcare professionals can swiftly access comprehensive patient histories, enabling them to make expedited and more precise diagnoses and treatment decisions. This not only benefits patients but also eases the workload of doctors, empowering them to deliver better care.

EMRs also serve as a vital tool in addressing healthcare disparities in India, ensuring that patients in tier II and tier III cities receive healthcare of the same quality as their metropolitan counterparts.

The growth of the Indian EMR market is further driven by government incentives, ongoing product innovations, and increased investments in healthcare startups.  As per reports, the EMR market is expected to grow at a compound yearly growth rate of around 6% touching in excess of USD 300 million by 2028.

Moreover, the Indian government’s active support for digital healthcare initiatives, symbolized by the National Digital Health Mission, plays a crucial role in this narrative. This government backing encourages the integration of EMRs into the healthcare ecosystem, aligning the nation’s healthcare sector with modern and efficient practices.

  1. How is HealthPlix helping in the digitization of healthcare in India?

Our company’s EMR platform is a comprehensive solution for doctors, making it easier for them to manage patient records and streamline their clinical practices. With a simple one-click view of a patient’s entire health history, doctors can save time and provide more personalized care.

Our AI-powered EMR platform has evolved with changing times. Industry-first digital products such as the Drug-to-Drug Interaction (DDI) are built to help doctors recall molecular information during patient care, reducing prescription time.

In a recent development, HealthPlix ROBIN Dashboard has seen an increased usage trend by doctors in the country. The dashboard serves as a patient relationship management (PRM) and clinical research tool for doctors. Over 4,900 individual doctor clinics in 300+ cities of India are using ROBIN for clinic analytics.

Further with the latest launch of Offline EMR, HealthPlix is enabling doctors to access patient records in areas with unreliable internet connectivity, making healthcare services more accessible.

To reduce the disease burden faced by the country, we are digitally assisting doctors in tackling acute and chronic cases. At HealthPlix, we are committed to boosting doctor productivity and improving the quality of healthcare services, contributing to the ongoing digitization of healthcare in India.

  1. What is the role of startups in digitizing healthcare in tier II and tier III cities?

Startups play a crucial role in digitizing healthcare in tier II and tier III cities by identifying and addressing significant gaps in the healthcare ecosystem through innovative solutions. These regions often face substantial infrastructure challenges, such as limited bandwidth and unreliable internet access. According to the most recent census, a considerable portion of the population resides in rural areas, placing heavy reliance on a limited number of healthcare providers to address a wide range of health issues among patients.

To effectively address these challenges, healthcare professionals require specialized digital platforms that can be utilized at the point of care to empower doctors holistically. Today, a growing number of startups are leveraging newer technologies to build products that help fill the gaps in care in lower-tier cities- telemedicine, remote monitoring, and online consultations have become a new norm.

The healthcare industry is on the verge of a major shift, and technology-led startups are playing a central role across the globe advancing the movement, being the only facilitator of infrastructure required to deliver healthcare beyond boundaries.

HealthPlix is a pioneering health-tech startup that transforms valuable insights into impactful digital products engineered to simplify doctors’ lives.

  1. What are the benefits of AI in the healthcare industry?

The benefits of AI are both compelling and indispensable. Even in tier-two clinics, there is a growing need for digital support at the point of care. This requirement stems from several advantages that AI brings to the healthcare landscape.

Firstly, AI can simplify healthcare operations with features like drug-to-drug interaction nudges and smart scan capabilities. These tools enhance efficiency by streamlining data management, making it easier for doctors to access and process critical information. This heightened efficiency is vital in delivering faster and more effective patient care.

Secondly, AI is a game-changer when it comes to early disease detection. By analyzing patient data, AI algorithms can identify subtle patterns and anomalies that might elude human healthcare professionals. This early detection capability can lead to timely interventions and improved treatment outcomes, thus saving lives. Also, AI, IoT, and data management practices enable data-driven decision-making. In a country like India, where healthcare data volumes are substantial, leveraging these technologies allows healthcare providers to make informed decisions, enhance care quality, and optimize resource allocation.

In essence, AI in the healthcare industry offers a transformative potential. The combination of AI, IoT, and data management practices is ushering in a new era of smarter and more effective healthcare delivery, benefiting both doctors and patients.

  1. What do you think about the Indian healthcare industry’s reluctance to adopt technology? How should this be addressed?

To tackle this effectively, one of the first things we need to consider is the comfort level of our healthcare professionals, especially our dedicated doctors. Doctors are the backbone of our healthcare system. They are the ones who interact directly with patients and deliver care. So, it’s paramount that we make their transition to using technology as smooth as possible. This means creating tools and systems that seamlessly fit into their daily routines, reducing any friction in their workflow.

Simplification and innovation are two critical aspects of this transition. We need to design healthcare technology that is user-friendly and intuitive. The easier it is to use; the more likely doctors will embrace it. We also need to continually innovate, focusing on removing any barriers and making technology adoption as seamless as possible.

In addition to this, education and training are vital. Many reservations about technology stem from a lack of understanding, so comprehensive training and ongoing support are essential.

At HealthPlix, our mission is to bring technology to the heart of healthcare- doctors. We strive to ensure that technology integration for them is smooth, and efficient and enhances the practice rather than complicating it. By focusing on the needs of healthcare professionals and addressing their concerns, we can bring about a more efficient and effective healthcare system in India.
