In conversation with Mr. Sanjeev Kumar CEO of Logic Fruit Technologies on transforming the future of the aerospace and defence industry with next-gen technology

 

Please brief us about Logic Fruit Technology and the services the company provides.

Logic Fruit Technologies(LFT) was founded in 2009, having its niche in developing FPGA and CPU centric systems by utilizing organically growing existing IP library.We are preferred partners/ vendors to enterprise customers such as AMD, Intel, Keysight, Siemens, ISRO and DRDOs for investigation & feasibility study, and architecture development  followed by complete development of the various systems & solutions. Logic Fruit has developed and delivered 100+ Hardware & Software centric Solutions for diverse industries like Test and Measurement, Telecom, Aerospace & Defence, Semiconductor by using our capabilities and IPs in Hardware and Software Engineering. The targeted market for Logic Fruit Technologies is US, Europe and India

 

What are the latest developments you are seeing in the technology industry as a whole?

There are disruptions in the hardware industries, as CPU’s processing power is not increasing as per the rate of demand. Although CPUs can never be replaced, however, New use cases of configurable hardware like FPGAs and GPUs are assisting CPUs in providing the much-needed processing power. Other technological advancements are:

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advancements: AI is being integrated into various industries, including healthcare, finance, and transportation, to improve efficiency and decision-making. All these workloads requires a lot of processing power, and in several cases, targeted processing is required, where FPGAs has an advantage on GPUs/CPUs.
  2. Internet of Things (IoT): IoT is expanding with the increasing number of connected devices. From smart homes to industrial applications, IoT is transforming how people interact with technology. It enables automation, data collection, and real-time monitoring, leading to improved efficiency and convenience.
  3. 5G Technology: 5G networks are being rolled out globally, offering faster and more reliable connectivity. However as the specification and requirements are evolving, configurable hardware are being used as always for the 1st generation of 5G systems.
  4. Hardware & Chips are new Gold: As the general purpose CPU is not improving the processing power, a lot of applications specifically silicon chips are required, especially for 5G, AI/ML, Industrial networking, and even Aerospace & Defence. We see there is a lot of demand for hardware engineers, however, most of the engineers are exploring the SW field in data science, AI/ML, and software applications.
  5. How does Logic Fruit leverage deep tech in its platform?

Logic Fruit has been working with FPGAs and CPUs for a long time, and have created a lot of systems IPs, that we are leveraging to build the latest generation system with reduced time and reduced risks. Today’s solutions are quite complex in terms of interface, processing power, and power consumption requirements. The existing expertise and IPs help us to architect a system right in the first iteration.

How does your solutions and services benefit the Defence industry?

Defence industry is very broad, and Logic Fruit Technologies is focusing on areas where complex real-time, heterogeneous systems are required as in the cases of electronic warfare, radar systems, video processing systems, etc. All these systems use FPGAs as one of the key processing elements. Using Logic Fruit’s expertise reduces the overall development time and risks for new systems.

Please tell us about your company’s growth and revenue.

Since its incorporation in 2009, Logic Fruit Technologies has been growing with a CAGR of ~40% despite facing several challenges during the journey (owing to its bootstrap strategy). FY22, we crossed our revenue by $5M, and FY23, we crossed INR 50Cr (>$6.5M). Logic Fruit has invested in and developed a few niche products targeting Indian Defence and we are awaiting manufacturing orders. We aim to speed up our growth in the next 2-3 years. Currently, Logic Fruit is focusing on the US market as it has tremendous growth opportunities for us. We are exploring equity funding, to take our growth rate over 100% and we are confident about the same.

 

According to you, how AI and ML will disrupt the technology world in the next 5 years?

AI and ML are expected to disrupt the technology world significantly in the next five years. Here are some key areas where their impact is anticipated:

  1. Automation and Efficiency: AI and ML will continue to automate routine tasks, increasing efficiency and productivity across industries. Automation will streamline processes, reduce errors, and free up human resources for more complex and creative tasks.
  2. Personalization and User Experience: AI and ML algorithms can analyze vast amounts of data to understand user preferences, behaviors, and patterns. This will enable businesses to deliver highly personalized experiences, tailored recommendations, and customized products or services that align with individual needs.

  1. Investigation, Feasibility study, and Architecture development

Having a detailed understanding of requirements and the feasibility of the requirements is one of the key requirements for a successful engagement. Our highly experienced engineering team works with customers to understand the requirements, followed by a detailed investigation, and feasibility study to assess the quantum of work and risks. We prepare a detailed requirement document and propose possible architecture and tradeoffs to take care of the systems with respect to initial requirements. Detailed requirements are sent to the respective team to implement the requirements.

  1. Mixed Signal Hardware Development

Logic Fruit’s team has expertise in developing complex hardware systems. We are experts in developing high density & high-speed boards with SoC and FPGA as major components. We have a strong history of having hardware work on 1st version of design.

  1. RTL Development

As one of the most experienced team in developing FPGA centric systems, LFT is working closely with FPGA companies Intel, Xilinx, Lattice and Achronix. Having developed various protocol controllers like PCIe, CPRI, DisplayPort, we can architect, implement and debug very complex designs. Our FPGA design services include micro-architecture, RTL coding, IP integration, rapid prototyping, DSP algorithm implementation, verification, and validation.

  1. Software Design and Development

Any computing system is incomplete without software. Logic Fruit has an expert team of software development for various layers, starting from BSP, OS, device drivers, middleware and application software. Our team has worked on various processor Architecture like X86, PowerPC, ARM  etc and OS such as  Windows, Linux, VxWorks etc
