Oracle with ISVs to accelerate cloud adoption in India

CXOToday has engaged in an exclusive interview with Mr.Vivek Gupta, Senior Director and Country Head, Oracle IaaS and PaaS Services, Oracle India.

  • How will ISV play a key role in the next phase of Cloud Adoption?

ISV is poised to play a pivotal role in the next phase of cloud adoption by offering specialized, innovative, and scalable cloud solutions that cater to the evolving needs of organizations. As organizations increasingly embrace hybrid and multi-cloud strategies, ISVs can embark on the creation of solutions that seamlessly traverse multiple cloud providers and on-premises environments. This adaptability is pivotal for enterprises contending with diverse infrastructure requirements. Many businesses rely on ISVs and therefore they need speed, scalability and efficiency in their applications which their customers would demand. To support this, cloud has proven to be a catalyst for ISVs.

Additionally, security is imperative when it comes to ISVs and every other organization and therefore, they need to rely on the right type of cloud provider.

Oracle acknowledges the shared security responsibilities between cloud providers and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) serves as a cutting-edge Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) & Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution, designed with a security-first approach. It boasts isolated network virtualization and meticulous physical host deployment.

  • Challenges that verticals like BFSI, manufacturing etc are facing with deep legacy investments.

Sectors like Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI), manufacturing etc.  face significant challenges stemming from their deep legacy investments in technology and systems.

One major obstacle is the inflexibility of legacy systems. Many organizations in these verticals rely on outdated software and hardware, which are challenging and costly to modify or integrate with modern solutions.

Security is another major concern. Legacy systems may lack the robust security features required to protect sensitive customer data and financial transactions in an increasingly digital and interconnected world. This makes these industries vulnerable to cyberattacks and data breaches, which can have severe financial and reputational consequences.

It’s imperative for them to develop comprehensive strategies for modernization and digital transformation to remain relevant and thrive in the future.

  • How can ISV play a key role to solve those challenges with their vertical offerings leveraging Oracle Cloud Infra (OCI) for their innovation?

Independent software vendors (ISVs) need unmatched speed, security, and scalability. That’s why the top ISVs run on Oracle Cloud. Whether your applications were born in the cloud or built from decades of industry expertise, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) offers the best performance at a market-leading price. OCI has built-in security and automation that allows ISVs to scale faster and deliver a better user experience to all of your customers.

ISVs deliver better value to their customers with OCI’s wide range of services and support. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) offers the opportunity to migrate or build your applications with minimal architecture or reintegration and delivers higher performance at lower cost than deployments running on-premises or on competitors’ clouds. OCI includes all the core infrastructure and platform-as-a-service options to meet key application needs. And with Oracle Lift Services, you can obtain free expert guidance from cloud engineers on planning, architecting, prototyping, and managing cloud migrations.

  • How is Oracle helping ISV to SaaSify & offer scalable, secure offering via Oracle Gen 2 Cloud?

Oracle believes that security is a shared responsibility between the cloud provider and the ISV. Oracle provides certain core capabilities, like isolated network virtualization and hardware root-of-trust and augment them with tools and services that the ISV can use to customize their security posture.

OCI offers the Streaming Service, which is a Kafka compatible, serverless streaming service that is often used to handle this communication. The advantage of this approach is the protection of components during failure whereby the blast radius is reduced by utilization of intelligent queuing or routing.

Over time, there could be a drift in infrastructure configuration. Most ISVs adopt an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) approach and OCI supports industry standard tools but goes one step further; OCI Resource Manager, a managed Terraform service, can be used to monitor, track, and repair drift in infrastructure. A key component of the “white glove” approach to ISV migration is a combination of the engagement process which brings together architects, business consultants, and specialist engineers to help design ISVs cloud solutions along with the use of Cloud Lift Services to work together with ISVs to bring the workload to OCI.

What makes Oracle unique in the ISV space is the willingness and desire to engage one-on-one with customers at the strategic, go-to-market (GTM), architectural, and implementation layers and to pair the experts with ISVs to jointly meet their requirements in the cloud.

  • Share some success stories of ISVs leveraging Oracle cloud.

Several independent software vendors (ISVs)are relying on the potential of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to shape their future endeavors.

  • WorkForce Software: With Oracle, WorkForce moved to a trusted platform without making any changes to its core applications—and now enjoys a 40% performance improvement compared to its previous setup.
  • “IBSFINtech”, a treasury management platform that recently transitioned its treasury management solution, InTReaX, to OCI. This move allows them to provide treasury management solutions globally as a cloud-based service.
  • Another notable example is “Medexpert Software Solutions,” a health-tech ISV offering a cloud-based Hospital Management System (HMS). Leveraging Oracle’s secure and autonomous cloud infrastructure, they’ve achieved advanced security, high performance, and cost-effective cloud operations. This transformation enabled them to digitize a hospital with approximately 150 beds in less than ten days.
  • “Soham ERP,” a pharmaceutical technology ISV, offers its cloud-based ERP application suite to pharma organizations through OCI. Collaborating with over 700 pharmaceutical companies in India, they enhance operational efficiencies, streamline processes, and reduce costs, enabling these companies to prepare for a cloud-centric future.
  • Leading the field in cybersecurity, “Tanium” relies on OCI to run its global automatic cyberattack response system. Similarly, “Thomson Reuters” expanded the reach of its indirect tax software to a global clientele by utilizing OCI’s capabilities.

These specialized ISVs have leveraged Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in innovative ways, experiencing unprecedented advantages that have reshaped their strategies and unlocked new opportunities.

  • Oracle’s future growth strategies

India’s rapidly evolving digital landscape demands robust cloud services. Oracle is nurturing strong partnerships with Indian enterprises, government bodies, and startups. These collaborations facilitate the customization of Oracle’s solutions to meet the specific needs of the Indian market and regulatory environment. Oracle views government projects as a strategic focus and intends to maintain its investments in this sector. Key initiatives like the Diksha program for online education and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) are considered transformative. Oracle is currently witnessing increased demand from diverse industry segments in India, spanning Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), manufacturing, telecommunications, education, startups, as well as Tier-1 and Tier-2 markets. Notably, several customers, including IFFCO and Manappuram, have opted to decommission their data centers and are migrating critical applications and workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
